End of Life Care

Kiera feels passionately about End of Life care focused around the needs and wishes of the individual and their loved ones.

Kiera is a qualified nurse and Soul Midwife. She was a community nurse for 6 years, a community Palliative Care Nurse for 5 years, supporting people to remain at home and to die at home, where this is their place of choice.

For the last 5 years she has worked in an independent hospice in West Wales.

In 2012 Kiera trained with Felicity Warner and qualified as a Soul Midwife. A Soul Midwife works with individuals to enable them to regain some control over their situation and to ensure that their independence is maintained and choices and preferences are heard and worked towards being achieved.

What does a Soul Midwife do?

  • Helps individuals to plan and prepare

  • Provides comfort and support through the dying process

  • Supports individuality, choice and independence

  • Visits the individual at home, in hospital or in a hospice

  • Is present at hospital appointments if required

  • Provides a listening ear to the individual and their family

  • Makes a good cup of tea

  • Provides practical support such as essential shopping or housework

  • Supports the individual in enjoying their remaining time as much as possible

  • Offers complementary therapies for the individual to aid relaxation and symptom control

  • Offers complementary therapies to the individual's loved ones

  • Provides hands-on personal care for the individual

  • Provides support for the individual in carrying out spiritual and religious preferences prior to and after death

  • Provides respite for family members to enable them to have a rest

  • Provides support in carrying out the individual's plans prior to and after death

  • Cares for the person after death, in accordance with their wishes

  • Offers to visit the loved ones of the individual after death, to share experiences and to talk about and reflect upon the experience

A Soul Midwife can be accessed by anyone, young, old, unwell or fit and healthy, as forward-planning ensures that your wishes are known and therefore decisions can be made taking these preferences into account. This is especially important if circumstances mean that you are no longer able to make your wishes known.

Kiera is more than happy to answer any questions or queries that you might have and will always support the choice of the individual as far as possible.

Kiera strongly believes that finances should not limit anyone's access to care and support. Please contact Kiera if you would like to know more about how she can support you and your loved ones.
